I'm going to go ahead and post a few of the guestbook posts from 2005 picked randomly to get us started. I will not post the email addresses of those comments.

I'm a sister of one who proudly went off to war in WW11,and was asigned to the USS INDIANAPOLIS, Its sad, when someone cant show respect,by useing this special page to use foul language. I really feel sorry for people who cant show respect,to our lost loved one's.God Bless all the living survivors, and this great Country.

read the book In Harm's Way per reccomendation of my US history teacher. It was riveting and sorrowful. Although I am sure that my condolonces are meaningless, as I cannot begin to have any experience similar to those of the men of the USS Indianapolis, I do offer them. I am so proud that the men representing our country in that war were so brave and strong throughout the tortorous days until rescue. As much as I am able to, I feel your pain and apologize for your pains.

May God bless each and every one of these brave men. You are all part of a story that fascinates and saddens so many people. Thank you for my freedom and what you endured to protect the freedom and future of so many generations.

I just finished watching a documentary about the Indianapolis on the Military Channel. My heart is overwhelmed at the sacrifice each person on the ship made for myself, my family and friends, and the country. For all your bravery, dedication, and selflessness, may God continue to always bless the men and the families of the men who served on the U.S.S. Indianapolis. As a history teacher for middle school students, please know that I dedicate myself this year, to bring the news of the Indianapolis, In Harms Way, etc.
alive to my students so the memory and respect for you will never fade. God bless each of you and your families.

I finished the book 'In Harms Way' and I just could not put it down.  My heart goes out to the survivors as well as the men who lost their lives and to Captain McVay who in my heart is innocent of all wrong doing. This was war and how could they have ever court martialed him I would never know.  God bless the survivors and Capt. McVay and the families.

My uncle was Thomas McNabb jr. He was my Fathers closest brother. He was eighteen years old and the final voyage of the Indianapolis was his first assignment. He was never accounted for other than lost at sea. I would like to hear from any of the surviving crew members who might remember him.Though it was a very difficult and tragic event for my Grandparents , dad and his beothers not one of our family ever blamed Captain McVey for their loss.
God Bless all of the men and their families and THANK YOU.

I just heard of the USS Indianapolis tragedy yesterday while listening to a morning radio show. They had been discussing the upcoming Discovery Channel shark week program and the hosts did an internet search on the ship. They began to describe what happened and had a caller whose grandfather was one of the survivors. It prompted me to look up the details myself. My heart goes out to the service members, both survivors and victims, and their families. I was glad to hear that Capt. McVay was cleared of any wrongdoing, even if it was posthumously. May god bless everyone affected by this tragedy.

Dear Tom,

I just wanted you to know that I visited Arlington National Cemetary 3 months ago, with a special mission in mind - to find your uncle's tombstone.  It took us a few hours (and lots of walking) but I finally had my picture taken next to it.  I was deeply touched by just seeing his name on there.

I would love to meet someone from your family in person someday - the Lost At Sea families endured as much pain as the survivors did.

Sincerely,  Kim

Although this was well before my time, this was a very tragic event that never should have happened. I am a former Army RANGER, so I do have a great understanding of honor and duty. To the men that served and and died in the line of duty, it was an honor to follow in the footsteps of some of the greatest sailers, and soldiers before me. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

I have never read the book In Harms Way, but I'll tell you the book my grandfather gave me as a boy tells the story pretty well. My grandfather had the book SHARK ATTACK autographed by his fellow survivors at one of their reunions in the late 70's or early 80's. I still shed a tear for him and those that didn't survive everytime I pick it up. God bless you granddad.

I just finished watching Ocean of Fear on The Discovery Channel. I have heard of the Indianapolis over the years. Tonight was a reminder to me of how strong and resilient these survivors were. My heart goes out to all of the families involved in this tragedy.

I HAVE READ ALOT ABOUT THE INDY IN THE LAST FEW YEARS, IT IS INCOMPREHENSIBLE THAT THE NAVY DIDN'T NOTICE THAT THE SHIP HADN'T ARRIVED AT IT'S DESTINATION. THANK GOD THAT THE PLANE SPOTTED THE MEN WHEN IT DID. ON THIS ANNIVERSERY, I WILL SAY AN EXTRA LITTLE PRAYER FOR ALL THE MEN ON BOARD, THOSE WHO SURVIVED AND THOSE WHO PERISHED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMITMENT TO OUR GREAT NATION AND FOR ALL OUR SOLDIERS PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE, WE WILL NOT FORGET YOU OR TAKE FOR GRANTED WHAT YOU DO FOR ALL OF US.

Here is the link to the In Touch interview of USS Indianapolis Survivor Harlan Twible that you are referring to.    A fabulous interview - and a wonderful gentleman!
