Sad news regarding the death of USS Indianapolis Survivor Jimmy O'Donnell

I just received the sad news that USS Indianapolis Jimmy O'Donnell passed away this afternoon (1/9/2013) at the age of 92.   Just a few days after celebrating his 70th Wedding Anniversary with his wife Mary.  A long, blessed life indeed!

Funeral services are being planned now, but I understand that Feeney-Hornack Mortuary in Indianapolis is handling arrangements.

May he rest in peace.

I am sorry to reply to this so long after the death of James O'Donnell.  I met Mr. O'Donnell when I traveled to Indianapolis for the Fire Department Instructor Conference back in the early 2000's.  He signed a hat for me that I treasure to this day.  Occasionally I checked over the years and sadly I found the obituary for James a couple of years back.  When I did some research into the missions of the Indianapolis during WW II I found out that the ship and crew supported the landings on the island of Peleliu in September of 1944.  My father landed on that island as member of the USMC.  He did not talk much about what he seen but he always mentioned the amount of ships that were supporting the landings. Sadly my father passed in August of 2011.  I have attached 2 pictures of the hat signed by James.  It would be great to hear from someone who knew him.  Thank you.
