Photos of every USS Indianapolis crew
Permalink Closed

I am still searching for photographs of any of the men while they were serving on the USS Indianapolis.  I have several hundred at the moment. Please drop me a line.  I hope to have all the men's pictures for the reunion in August.

I also wanted to let everyone know I just heard that a great humble man has passed away. Bill Van Wilpe, the decorated rescuer from the USS Bassett.  We should all honor him.

I have an original poster from the 40s that commemorates the service of my great great uncle who served on the USS Indy. The center of the poster has a black and white photograph of him in uniform. Contact me and I will send you a file of it.

I would really enjoy seeing the picture of your great uncle. What was his name?

Did you know the reunion for the Indy crew is coming up this weekend in Indianapolis?  There are still 38 men left from the survivors.

Steve

Good afternoon, Thank You for adding me.  I am trying to find a picture or any information of Seaman 2C Charles Walter Roof, who perished on the USS Indianapolis. He was an only child, from Detroit Michigan. I have found very limited information on Ancestry.com. He is my 2nd cousin. Thank You.

God Bless to Edwin Smith and his family.

Have you ever met anyone that knew Edwin on ship? May I ask how you were related to him?

I plan on seeing a few of the survivors in a few weeks. I will share his name to see if any of them knew Mr. Smith.

He is my great uncle. Although I never knew him my grandfather (his brother) made sure to keep him memory very alive. From what I know he worked in the boiler room. My grandfather said when he was very young a friend did come to see his family. He said he wasn't sure, but he thought Edwin went down with the ship. I would love for you speak with anyone about him. Even if nothing comes of it, it's nice to know he's being spoke of.

Thank you,

Carolin

I DONT KNOW IF YOU CAN HELP ME BUT DO YOU HAVE ANY PHOTO OF RADIOMAN 2ND CLASS ALLEN CHARLES STREICH?He Was my Grandmothers cousin and no photo of him is held by the US NAVY Records.I have failed to find any living US relatives including The Gehiki family in Lansing and The Weidners though i know our cousin Ralph has numerous great granchildren.I also find it very sad that not only does it appear no photo of Allen exists despite him having served through all of the Indys Battles and dieing on her their isnt even a photo of his name on the Memorial in The American Military Cemetary in Manila.
It would be wonderful to see a photo of Allen as he is remembered with a cross along with his cousin Lyle Weidner USMC who was killed in action in !943 in the solomon islands along with the British and Australian relatives in the family who died serving their countries on Our Remembrance day services.
Thank you for taking the time to read this i would be grateful of any help or advice you could give me.
All the Best
John Kennedy
