This incredible story, one that until now, has been generally overlooked in the history books on this side of the water, has provoked quite a stir in the UK recently. There has recently been an informative piece written and published on the BBC News website that many of you might find interesting. I am aware that all on the forum will be more than familiar with the story and the events as they unfolded but, for those of us who were really quite ignorant of this tale of great tragedy, bravery and subsequent mismanagement, it has not only intrigued us but also inspired many of us to learn more of the Indianapolis, its crew, Captain and history.

The story is being taken on by some local schoolchildren over here as a History project, moving away from the more traditionally covered subject areas, broadening the knowledge base and certainly ensuring that there is anything but glory in wartime.

There is no real point to my sharing of this message, only to say that, even now, the message is still filtering through and that as it does so, more and more interest is gained and more supporters are enlisted. Each year, when we officially honour those who gave their lives during wartimes, we publicly state, 'we shall remember them.' Now, belatedly and really quite shamefully, we will also be able to remember those of the Indianapolis who have passed, either at the time of the event or since, and afford them our respect and gratitude.
