As I read the book In Harms Way I was honestly touched, I cant even begin to fathom the kinds of hard ships, grief and anger after being basically forgotten at sea after watching my home and friends get sunk right out from under me. There was many passages that as I read them I was tearing up since in the back of my mind there was the thought of myself seeing my friends and quite frankly my second family that I talk to on a daily basis suddenly and violently get ripped out of my life or go crazy form getting poisoned by the sea little by little over a 4 day period. The thought raced through my mind because I'm currently on deployment on board one of the Navy's finest destroyers right now. I honestly hope to meet one or preferably the whole lot of you fellas one day when I rotate back to the states next year. I realize a lot has changed in the many years since WWII with how the Navy operates, and why we do some of the things we are required to do now all because of tragedies that have stricken in the past. Out of the many passages that stuck out in my mind as I read them, the one that stuck out the most was in the Authors notes that said "Don't ever forget the sacrifices somebody has made for you." because if it wasn't for men that would stand up and fight rather than lay down and take the beating, this country would not be as great as she is, and I would not be the man I am today without these sacrifices. with the up most respect, FC2(sw) J. McManus USN
