Wreck of the USS Indianapolis
Permalink Closed

I am interested in any information that is available that would help narrow down the location where the Indianapolis was sunk. I am a sonar technician/ROV pilot onboard a very capable research vessel that has identified a number of wrecks previously. I have always been interested in the Indianapolis and identifying the wreck location and the condition would be interesting and add some closure to this story. If anyone has any information that would help narrow down the location or has copies of the log books from the rescue vessels that picked up the survivors I would be interested in any information your happy to share. Any research pointers would also be welcome..........

Kind Regards

Leighton

I think its 'good luck' and lots of money at this point.

Dr. Robert Ballard had looked for the ship but never found it and I think Curt Newport has looked for it as well ( Discovery Channel - 2001 ).  I would have _no_ idea whether they would share coordinates that they have searched or not.

I think Dr. Ballard would be the resource to start with.

good hunting!

I can put you in contact with Curt Newport, who is the person that led the exploration that has been done to date. Email me at BullardMBullard@aol.com
