Death of dear friend of USS Indianapolis
Permalink Closed

The USS Indianapolis Family lost a dear friend, Keith Smith.

Keith volunteered for five years with the USS Indianapolis Memorial Monument Commission dedicating his time to helping the Survivors dream of building a Memorial to their lost shipmates come true there in Indianapolis.

After the Memorial was built, Keith continued as an Archivist and Correspondent for the group. He was a wealth of information and one that I called upon often with questions about the story!

Because of his 21-book study of the circumstances surrounding the sinking and rescue of the USS Indianapolis CA-35, Keith was a part the research that gained the Captains exoneration from a court martial of the sinking ship.

No doubt there was quite a welcome from the Crew at the Pearly Gates as Keith walked in!
