Last week, my husband and I took our 7 year old son to Indianapolis for a concert and we visited the Indiana War Memorial while we were there. We were all very impressed by the displays and history and it seems to rival almost anything I have seen in Washington DC. We visited the new USS Indianapolis section also. It was very small, just one room. I was told that it doesnt officially open until August sometime and they are still adding more memorabilia. I hope so. What was currently there was very moving though. The most memorable part of the visit was meeting the family of a crewman who died that fateful night. We met a few members of Elmer O. Michael's family. According to his son and daughter, their father was an assistant to the Chaplain. It was very humbling and memorable and I am grateful to have met them.
