I am Thomas G Goff's grandaughter. Tom, known to many of you as pappy, is the oldest living survivor of the ship. He will turn 101 on November 15,2007. Tom received a draft notice at nearly 37 years of age. Upon reporting the navy told him he was free to go home, an error had been made. Grandpa said that wasn't how he was raised and stayed on. The rest as they say is history... I watched Ocean of Fear this evening. I of course knew the story but am awestruck everytime I hear it again. Grandpa and his fellow ship mates have and always will be my role models and heroes. The collage photo appeared on the front page of The Canton Repository on Friday, July 27 with a story commemmorating the anniversary of the sinking. The other photo is at Grandpa's100th birthday party. Grandpa is in the middle of shipmates Sam Lopez and Albert Morris.
