My grandmother just passed and her brother, Bob Lippert was on the USS Indianapolis. He was in "C" Division communications as a radioman or a yeoman. I was told he made it into the water after the sinking but died before the rescue. I was curious if anyone out there knows if he drowned, died of dehydration/shark attack, etc. If anyone knew how he died, ... I would be extremely grateful.

More info - Bob was 5'-7" 125lb kid (enlisted at 17, died at 19) from Canada who was a radioman. Papers from the National Archives indicate he died when the ship went down.
If anyone out there knew him and can post a reply, I would be grateful.

Hi, We have obtained a photo album we believe belonged to Mr L D Lippert, brother of Robert Lippert from Canada. The photo album contains pictures of both brothers - mainly Mr. L. D. Lippert taking his flight training at 24 EFTS in Abbotsford BC Canada. There is also pictures of Mr. Robert Lippert as a crew member of the USS Indianapolis. Also given to us is a Flight Training Manual from 1943. We would like to get this historic information to family members who may be interested.
