I, as all of us here in New Orleans, was going through my documents trying to find what is salvagable. I found my uncles account of the sinking and a page of the ships log USS Basset which lists all Indy survivors taken on border her. They are not in too bad condition I am going to try to scan them in to my computer to post here. Anyone else have any documents that they might want to share please post.

Being from New Orleans also, I completely understand how much salvaging those documents means to you. One of the biggest losses to me in Katrina was my "Abandon Ship" book from one of the earliest reunions autographed by so many of the finest gentlemen I've ever know. How lucky you are to have found your uncles documents unharmed. Can hardly wait to see them posted!

I know how that loss hurts. It is wierd the things that are salvageable and those that are not. My dad had uncle Reds "Blue Jackets" manual, "Abandon Ship", newspaper clippings,Purple Heart, photos most destroyed. But as with all Scanlans we will survive and go on.
Now if someone can just tell me how to make this computer listen to commands I might just get those documents up .

If you reply to the thread, then at the bottom of that page, before pressing 'submit post', click on the square by "attach image". that will open the area to attach the file. If you click on "browse" in that section, you can scan through your computer and find the file you want to attach.
