I am interested to know if and when any survivor reunions/annual commemorations take place.
I have been greatly moved by this historical event and would like to meet, speak or write to any of these heroes of mine and yours. They have touched and left an indelible impression on me and I just want to personally have the chance to acknowledge them as my fellow man and thank them.
This weekend at the Westin Hotel in downtown Indianapolis, the remaining survivors meet to remember their incredible survival, and miraculous rescue. They meet, too, to honor the memory of those dear brothers lost at sea. Thursday, July 31 7 pm
Welcoming reception with Marion County Indiana Sheriff Frank Anderson, a Navy veteran, and his father, a WW II Navy veteran. The public is invited to attend.
Friday at 11:30 the Survivors and immediate families are treated to a luncheon in their honor at the Columbia Club on Monument Circle. The generous sponsors of this event : Federal Express and the Columbia Club.
Friday at 6 PM at the Carmel Indiana American Legion Post # 155, the Suurvivors and their guests will attend a banquet with entertainment by Bruce Borders, an Indiana State representative and Elvis Impersonator. They will meet the composer, and , hear the music created to commemorate the Bataan death march; "God Bless America" performed by the Japanese Army Band and an American Choir. There are a few more tickets available. Contact John Gromosiak at ( 317 ) 972-6897.
Saturday at 11:15 AM. The survivors will be honored for their sacrifices on behalf of our freedom by riding in a parade of antique cars. After they visit their Memorial on the Canal at Walnut and Senate, the parade will go down Pennsylvania Avenue. Those wanting to honor and thank these brave men can see them pass by between New York and Ohio as they proceed South on Pennsylvania.
Saturday at 5 PM : a ****tail hour at the Westin with several special musical entertainers. The Mayor of Indianapoolis will speak at the Banquet at 6 PM. There may be some seats left, contact John Gromosiak for more information.
The lobby at the Westin will be filled with art, military history, books and memorabilia for your perusal from Friday evening through Sunday at noon. It's a great time to meet the survivors and their families, and their many supporters from around the world.
Sunday morning at 9:00 AM, the public may attend a Memorial Ceremony at the Uss Indianapolis Memorial at Walnut and Senate on the downtown canal. This is a moving ceremony with Taps and a Marine salute.
God Bless you, and I hope we see you at the Reunion.

We have about 12 survivors coming to the Air Show at Mt. Comfort Airport this weekend. This is about 12 miles east of Indianapolis on I 70.
Many of the men coming to the air show were not able to make it to the ReUnion.
The show runs Saturday and Sunday. You should be able to search " Indianapolis Air Show" to get more detail. Or, contact public relations director John Gromosiak this evening at the Jameson Inn in Castleton.
