My name is Marilen Rivera and I am from Manila, Philippines. I chanced upon your site while browsing the net and thought this might give me a chance to find out about a US flag which was handed down to us by my grand father. The information we have about the flag is that it came from a US war ship during world war 2 and that the ship sank. I do believe that it is the flag from the USS Indianapolis. I have been exchanging emails with Mr. Jeff Nance, EVP of the USS Indianapolis Musuem about it.
The flag was given to my grandfather by his good friend who was a crew of that ship ( I think he was the cook and he is filipino) The problem is my grandfather could only recall the first name of that guy which was Pedro.
I know this is no easy task but I do hope we get to find the real story behind this flag because we would like to give it back where it truly belongs.
I would appreciate it very much if any of the remaining survivors would recall a crew member, particularly by the name of Pedro, who was a cook on the ship.
Please feel free to email me at mprivera71@yahoo.com. Thank you very much and have a wonderful day.
