I attended the service this morning at the memorial, and as usual, it was a moving experience. Weather was perfect. Kind of hampered by lack of a sound system (someone told me it would cost $800 for one), however. I could hear most of it. As an extra touch, there were 2 members of the USS Indianapolis sea rescue team. Captain ____ (I didn't get his name), the former Captain of the USS Indianapolis nuclear submarine, gave a moving tribute. He attends every reunion, and always will.
Lots of news coverage. The survivors' buses were escorted in by a group of veterans on motorcycles, flying large American flags. Bagpipers marched in first. The Navy Hymn was sung.
I am glad I went. Sadly, only about 20 survivors were in attendance.
