Joining The United States Navy could have only seemed an exciting adventure for a very sweet boy from a tiny little town in Indiana. He died at some point between 30 July and 4 Aug 1945. His parents, Joseph and Mary Lewis had already lost a daughter in 1917, and the sadness felt with losing John continues for the entire family through to present day. As a relative now researching the history of the Lewis family, I believe that bringing John Robert Lewis, GM3 into the sunlight will make future generations equally as proud of the efforts he made during that mission.
