My husband and I had the great privilege and honor of meeting U.S.S. Indianapolis survivor Mike Kuryla earlier this week in our little town when he was here for Veteran's Day, as a guest of our local American Legion. He signed the copy of "In Harm's Way" we purchased, and shook our hands. After hearing him speak, I immediately read the book, along with "Left for Dead." I am just heartsick over what happened to these boys, and outraged at what happened to Captain McVay. I have a son who is 20, just a year older than Mr. Kuryla was at the time of the sinking. I look at his photos in the books from the time of the sinking and can only think, "He was just a baby!" So many of these dear boys were babies, it breaks my heart. Thank you so much, Mr. Kuryla, and all the boys of the Indianapolis, those who survived and those who didn't. Because of you, my children are free. Sincerely, Julie Blaylock
