You might enjoy book I wrote about a hero in my town. His name is William Van Wilpe and he received the US Navy &n Marine Corps Medal for Heroism for risking his life during the rescue of the USS Indianapolis survivors. Bill is still alive and goes to the reunions for the survivors and rescuers held in Indianapolis every year in July. Name of the book is "60 YEARS LATER", a small town discovers a hero in their midst. It is a fascinating story about his part in the rescue and his home town finding out after 60 years that he was a true hero. You can get book on Amazon or most on-line book retailers.
