Ephrata, PA is a community of about 14,000 people. I can not find a single person in the community that ever had any idea that he was born in this community, or that knows anything about the circumstances that brought the McVays to this community at the time of his birth.
Does anyone know how CPT McVay came about to be born in Ephrata, PA? His father was in the Navy at the time (no Navy bases here). There are no local people with last name McVay (there are some that spell it McVey, but none of them ever even heard of him).
None of our local historical records reference CPT McVay. Our community is almost totally unaware that he was born here.
I am a police officer with the Ephrata (PA) Police Dept. According to USNA records and Wikipedia, CPT McVay was born in our community:
"Charles Butler McVay III was born in Ephrata, Pennsylvania on July 30, 1898 to a Navy family."
