Hello. I yesterday asked if a Mac was known as my uncle Robert Swanson, MM second class, mentioned Mac in his log dated 5-7-1943 to 4-18-1945. He started the log at Mare island in 1943 and ended at Eniwetok atoll in 1945. This log was with the family. A continuning log would have been on the ship...

My Uncle Mac was stationed in San Fransico, Calif. Nov. 4, 1943 on the USS Indianapolis. I know this by a letter with that date to his dad, M.B. Harrison and his mother! He was on leave in Oct., Nov., or Dec. 5, 1944. I have a paper clipping with the first part of the month torn off and his picture. According to the paper clipping, from a Meridian Newspaper, possibly the Meridian Star, Uncle Mac entered the Service July, 1943. Attended Boot Camp at Great Lakes, Ill. He served as a Gunner on the Indy and saw much action in the South Pacific. He took part in six major battles within the past 14 months!
Sincerely, Sherry Adkins
