Sir, I am good friends with William Van Wilpe, whose name is mentioned in the book, "In Harm's Way". Bill was a member of the USS Bassett, the ship who rescued the most survivors from the USS Indianapolis. I wrote a book about Bill called "60 Years Later", which tells the story of Bill's heroism during the rescue. I think you would enjoy reading it. For almost 60 years, no one in Bill's home town of Wanaque, NJ knew Bill was a hero in the war and the Navy didn't recognize Bill for his heroism until 2005, 60 years later, hence the title of my book.
