I am a History teacher at Hays High School in Hays, Kansas. I simply want the survivors of the USS Indianapolis and their families to know that I read Doug Stanton's book In Harm's Way to my students every year. I believe it's essential to my student's lives that they understand and remember the sacrifice all veterans have made for our country; especially the veterans of the USS Indianapolis. When I first got into teaching, my mentor told me she read to her students. Well, I wasn't so sure about reading to high schoolers, but after reading In Harm's Way, I thought it was a perfect way to expose my students to an incredible event in our country's history while teaching the importance of civic values. Please know that at least here in Hays, Kansas the men of the USS Indianapolis are not forgotten.

That is wonderful!!! Thank you so much for helping share the story to the younger generation! If you're interested, I can check my records and see if there is a Survivor that lives near you and might be interested in visiting. Email me at BullardMBullard@aol.com if interested!
