I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago knowing the family of John A Schmueck, especially his son John. He and his wife, Virginia, were wonderful people. When the book "Abandon Ship" was published in 1958 all of our friends wanted to read it, esp. about Mr Schmueck's actions. While he talked a little about his experiences, he never went into real depth. As the years have gone by, I have forgotten much, but I seem to remember he was in the water for quite a few days. Does anyone have that information? I would like to contact either of his sons, John or David, as I have lost all info on them.
