Gentlemen: A couple of years ago at the VA hospital in Fort Wayne, IN, I saw a sailors hat... it Said USS Indianapolis. I am a Marine, but I was raised in Indianapolis, and I know the story. I couldn't believe that right there, in front of me, wrapped in the fragile form of age, was a seaman from the USS Indianapolis.
I'm a Marine... but in my heart I carry a huge special place for all of you.
And you know what? When we get told "Thank you for your service" there is now a neat response. Simply look the giver in the eye and say "You were worth it"... sort of ties it, and us, all together.
Brothers... "Thank you for your service"

Survivor Donald Beaty was from Fort Wayne Indiana. Sadly, he is now deceased. There are now only 29 remaining survivors.
