I am the great nephew of a sailor who perished in the sinking of the Indianapolis. He was a younger brother to my grandfather.
I recently saw the post on a Facebook News article that the wreckage was found and became interested again in the story of the Indianapolis. I learned of my great uncle being stationed on the ship many years ago while still in junior high, but at that time did not know the significance of the ships role at the end of the role. I learned of that during my time in the Navy, during a visit with another of my grandfather's brothers (who also served in the Navy during WWII), when the ship I served on was still stationed in San Diego.
I had seen the Western Union telegram that had informed my great grandmother of his death when I was in high school after going through some of my grandfathers things after his death in 1990.
I have come to offer my story and my respects to the families of the sailors of the Indianapolis who are no longer with us and to say thank you to any of the sailors who are still alive today.

I am happy to see that the story of the Indianapolis lives on through you.
