Death of Survivor Eugene Morgan
Permalink Closed

I received the news today that USS Indianapolis Survivor Eugene Morgan of Seattle, WA died this morning.   There is a memorial service planned on Saturday, June 28 in Seattle.
Below is a picture of Eugene in front of the Indiana War Memorial / USS Indianapolis Museum in July 2007.
Please keep Eugene and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
May he rest in peace.

Here's the link to an article the Seattle PI ran on Eugene's Death on Friday June 27th 2008. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/368805_obitmorgan28.html

There are additional links to archived articles about Eugene and his experience  at the end of the article.

His memorial was a truly moving tribute to his life. The Seattle Fire Dept of which he was a member honored him with an honor guard, firetruck parked in front of the Funeral Home and bagpipes. Adrian Marks daughter Alexis represented her father and shared very moving words with everyone, as well as rescuer Ken Bragg from the USS Register. Many other historians and local fellow sailors shared their memories of Eugene and his wonderful personality and smile. We were all blessed to know him.

I was certainly blessed to be able to assist him in sharing his story with the school children and communities in Washington and Oregon. Thank you Gene for letting me share your life with others. Thanks to his family for sharing their father with me!

I miss Gene and sometimes I forget that he's not with us anymore.  He was soooo alive and fun!

Here's an article about his Grandson, Jason Witty USN, performing the solemn honor of scattering Eugene's ashes in the South Pacific - to be with his shipmates.  The pictures are wonderful.
