Meeting the USS Indianapolis Survivors

We took our 4 children to the Survivor's Reunion, last year, to meet the men we've told our boys so much about.  My husband and I have been haunted and inspired after reading "In Harm's Way".  We met many of the survivors and even got their autographs in "Only 317 Survived".  They lived up to the heroic image I had of them.  They were kind and humble and dignified.  Great guys.  Just what I think of when I think of the legends from WWII.  My 10 year old son told me, that night, that meeting them was the best thing he's ever done.  "Even better than Disneyworld", which is saying a lot about those men, their story, and my son.  They made an incredible impact on our family.  A year later, both of our boys still talk about that day and tell other people about it.  They still wear their hats proudly.  It was a day that they'll always remember and treasure.  I'm so glad we were able to take them to meet those incredible men and can't wait to do it, again, in 2012.  Thank you guys for your service, for your patriotism, and for proving that people can go through Hell and still come out as survivors and good people, and go on and do something positive with your life.  We can learn a lot from that.  People like you make me even more proud to be an American, swells the heart of this patriot.  God bless you, your families, our country, and all of our fighting men and women.

Sincerely,

Terri Wheat
