Thank you for having this site. Does anyone  remember my cousin on the ship? He was from Butte, Montana His mother showed me the article about the U.S.S. Indianapolis that was in the local paper. Also showed me a metal model of a P-38 Lightning ( A WW2 Fighter plane ) that her son had made from the metal wreckage from a Japanese suicide plane that had struck the ship in an earlier battle. She also showed me the telegram pertaining to her son. I was only 12 at the time and never forgot what she showed me.I am looking for more information that anyone can provide on my cousin. Or possibly a picture.I'm presently researching his family's history in Butte,MT. His dad was a copper miner for the Anaconda Company there.

I just spotted your post from three years ago. I am Frank Romani's nephew. With the recent anniversary of the Indianapolis' sinking and the resulting national press, I started looking more into it having purchased the book, Out of the Depths by Indy survivor Edgar Harrell.

Now my daughter and granddaughter are doing some research and I'm trying to find out information for them. Have you ever come upon the name of Frank's wife or his daughter? I actually met his daughter in 1970 (married with children) but have since lost all information I had on her. With the passing of my grandparents and my parents, I have no source to continue the search, now just poking around on the Internet.

I do have some pictures (or my daughter does now) of Frank as a youth as well as one of him on board the Indianapolis just months before it was sunk.

His wife's name, not sure of the spelling, was Cy or possibly Sye, they lived in Centerville. I remember the telegram she got from the service. My email address is johnsonelkcabin@aol.com. I hope this helps some.

Walter and James,
I cant believe it took me so long to find this site. My name is Gary Roman (Dad is Roger) and my Grandmother Natalena (Romani) Roman and Franks Father Francesco Romani were siblings, making Frank Romani my second cousin. I have always been a WWII buff and since my retirement I have been doing more research on the USS Indianapolis. I would love to here from either of you RE: Frank Romani, the USS Indianapolis and or family history. I have a plethora of genealogy of our family.

I am sorry to inform you but Walter passed away March of 2015 otherwise he would have enjoyed visiting with you as he was into a lot of family history.

My condolences on the passing of Walter, I too would have enjoyed sharing information and hearing some of his stories.

If its not too much to ask I would like to know his relationship with Frank Romani.  I know he stated they were cousins, however I have decades upon decades of family lineage and I can't locate the Johnson name.

Please let me know if you are interested in continuing this discussion and/or if you would prefer my personal email address.

I only remember him saying that they were distant relations. Walter was the last of his family that would have been able to help you. I am sorry that I am unable to help
