Please check out the following linqs-http://thegazette.com/2012/02/26/house-to-honor-iowans-in-tragic-world-war-ii-attack      This is my families story-Robert King-was my Uncle and the father of my dear cousin-Karen Mollenhauer. Her mother and my mother were sisters. They have her name wrong in the article(of course). Long Long overdue for the families of these men.   God Bless all the families who gave everything so we can live as we do today-Free. 31 men from IOWA served on this ship.Only 3 survived. We attended the proceedings at the State house.

I've been seeing the news about this and think it is GREAT!!! Agreed - long, long overdue. However, my father is a survivor and please know that there has not been a day in his life that has gone by that he doesn't think about his shipmates lost at sea. He is 85 yrs old and in failing health, but he has always told me that throughout his life.

Please extend our best and our gratitude to your Father. My family lost alot the day of the sinking-this was my Aunt's birthday. Her daughter,Karen and I feel it put her mother into a life long depression-left untreated-her entire life. Needless to say that had major ramifications for the whole family dynamics. Just a bit more trivia-My other Uncle Robert Jellings- was a Navy sea plane pilot. As I was told in family lore-he flew over the Indy and radioed, but was denied permission to land. Imagine if he had disobeyed orders-I can only dream. Also, one year later on my Aunt's birthday and the anniversary of the ship going down a birthday card arrived with only a ? mark for signature. (really weird and cruel). As memory goes again from family lore-my cousin Karen says as a small child she remembers discussion about a post mark from the east coast of the U.S. Blessings to you and your family. PEACE. Most Sincerely,Cathey Barth  480 Rogers St. Robins Iowa 52328
