Hello and Questions Regarding William Martyn
Permalink Closed

I am very grateful for having come across this forum and wish the best for all involved with it and the USS Indianapolis.

In tracing my family tree, I discovered my late father was (at least at one time) stationed on the Indianapolis. I was hoping anyone would recognize his name and help confirm?  He isn't on the final crew list, but I'm not sure if that means there is confusion regarding official military records.

Thank you very much, and all be well!

THere is a page on this message board titled "How To Request Service Records". If you follow the information on that page, perhaps you can request your father's service records. As I recall, there were many sailors that got off the ship shortly before the sinking. Perhaps if you get the actual service records, you can get an idea of where your father was on these dates. Hope that helps!

Thank you kindly!  Some records have been easier than some to access. He never said much about his times during the war, and I am only now beginning to piece things together. Something that strikes me as odd, is that he's listed as being aboard in 1945, but he's never signed out or reassigned. Has anyone ever heard of that or what it may mean?
