USS Indianapolis and USS Tranquillity
Permalink Closed

Although I am 57 years old and never served in the military I have always felt very close to the USS Indianapolis.  My grandfather, Dr. James F. Conner, MD, was a doctor on the hospital ship Traquillity which took care of the Indianapolis survivors.  A picture of him bending over a survivor who is lying in a hospital bunk would periodically appear in books (Ordeal by Sea) and various TV documentaries about the Indianapolis.  I have always been incrediably proud that he was one of the people who were able to help the survivors.

This website is wonderful.  People need to remember all that happened.  What the survivors and those who didn't survive went through is unreal.  I also want to add that I was so glad when Captain McVay was vindicated.  If only it had happened during his life time.

Thank you,

Jim
