CREW REPLACEMENT AT GUAM
Permalink Closed

In several articles including Wikipedia it was stated when Indianapolis put in to Guam on July 27, 1945 to replenish food, fuel, and ammunition before proceeding to the Philippines on July 28, there was mention made of "a number of crewmen" whose enlistments were up and were replaced. Does anyone have information such as how many crew were replaced, who were the sailors whose enlistments were up, are they alive today,  and where were the replacements drawn from in the space of 24 hours? Why make mention of a routine matter to replace a few crewmen? The reason may be it was an inordinate number at one time that needed to be replaced quickly and that is why it is mentioned. Any leads for this subject are welcome.
