Reunions-plan on attending one, you won't regret it!
Permalink Closed

Hi,

I just wanted to say that if you are ever in the Indianapolis area and have the chance to attend a reunion (they happen every 2 years in July, usually near the end of the month, this years, however, was July 4-8th, the next one will be July 2009) then by all means make it a priority to go! It is well worth it! Sadly, their numbers are dwindling and the numbers of those who are able to attend are declining.

I attended the 2005 reunion but was unable to attend this years and am really regretting it. It is wonderful to just sit and listen to these wonderful men share their memories with each other. It is especially moving when they share the details of their experiences, and when they reminisce about those men who were Lost at Sea. Just be sure to have plenty of Kleenex on hand.

I have been lucky enough to spend more time with these humble, yet great men, as my sister Kim and I do presentations with them, helping to educate the public about their harrowing ordeal. My favorite time is when we gather at the hotel lobby or restaurant and they talk, and laugh, and cry, theirs is a unique bond and I feel blessed to be included.

So watch this website for details, often they'll have a mini-reunion on the off years, and if you visit Indianapolis be sure to take a walk by the monument along the Canal, it is especially beautiful and peaceful at night.

Dear Deone,

Thank you for this post.  I am making it my heart's promise to hear these men talk at the July 2009 reunion.  I'm saddened that they are dwindling in number but probably like yourself, I want to keep their memory alive even after their passing.

When you said that the reunions take place in Indianapolis, is that in Indiana?

Thank you,
Jake Malobecki

Hello Everyone, just wanted to say I accidently stumbled onto this convention while visiting Indianapolis from Providence, RI. I was immediately captivated by the knowledge, wisdom, expertise and humbleness of this survivor and veteran of the U.S.S. Indianapolis. Previous to this chance encounter, I never knew this ship ever existed!
