I just finished reading the book In Harm's Way for the second time. I very, very seldom read the same book twice, but this one I hope to keep reading forever. It reminds me of what is really important in life and puts a face on the unsung heroes who give me my daily freedom. It also keeps me humble by reminding me of what a "bad day" really is. It makes me thankful for the simple pleasures of such things as a hot shower, a dry pair of clothes, a warm bed. I have these things because of the sacrifices that others made, and continue to make every day. I love to read, and sometimes wonder if I spend too much time with my nose in a book; reading about others lives rather than living my own. Then I encounter a story such as this and know that my time was well spent. Books truly do broaden our horizons and and enrich our lives. Thank you everyone for your service and sacrifice. As the former wife of a veteran diagnosed with PTSD, I know that every survivor of this experience was forever changed.

With my profoundest gratitude,

Amy Kelley

You might enjoy reading "60 Years Later". It's a true story about one of the heroes in the rescue efforts. Sailor from the USS Bassett who dove into the shark infested waters to pull the survivors to safety, in the midst of 8-10 foot swells in the pitch black of night. A fascinating story.

Hey Tom!  How have the book sales been doing?  Is our sweet Bill Van Wilpe enjoying his hometown celebrity status?  He's an absolute gem and so are you, for getting him the recognition that he deserves.

I hope to see you again soon.  I'll let you know the next time I fly into your area!

Have a great day, young man!

Kim

Amy, join us in Indianapolis next summer, July 28-Aug 1 2010 at the Hyatt in downtown Indianapolis, and meet some of the Survivors, their families and friends.  We'd love to see you there!

I am finishing the book as we speak.  I have known about this for years but
never researched it.  The book is powerful and the Navy needs
to rescind the court martial of the Captain McVay.
