Looking forward to the 2010 Reunion, Thanks to the Users here, and Hail/Farewell to the Heroes

Hi, there.  My name is Terry and I live in Indianapolis, only about 1 mile ffrom the site of the 2010 reunion.  This will be my 3rd.  I keep low key, attending many of the seminars and stories from the heroes.  Today, I was at my local grocery and John Gromosiak got me fired up about this year's events (will someone post a list of them?) and the recent issues at the monument, which I walk by nearly every day.  Welcome all to Indy...I hope to meet some of you.

SurvivorsDaughter and IndySon18, I am so happy to follow you here, even though the news is sometimes sad.  You keep us informed and your spirit keeps the story alive.  My best to you.  Keep up the good work here.  It is appreciated more than you can know.

And to all the heroes that bring us to the sitethose who have passed on and those still with usyour bravery and service exemplify patriotism.  When I started to learn more about the crew of the USS Indianapolis and her fate, there were more than 100 survivors still with us.  I think I wrote to most of them and cherished every response.  Now, 59?  I miss your courage and spirit.  Meeting some of you has been the highlight of my life.  God speed to the crew of the USS Indianapolis!

Thank you Terry. Your kind words mean so much to us. It is especially touching to our families to know that people that do not have a personal (family) connection to the story still embrace it with such spirit. It is through people that like that the men and their families truly know that the memory of the sacrifices will continue to live on.

Due to the increasing age and health issues, many of the survivors and families that normally attend will not be attending this year. But please a do continue on our behalf to share the story with others, especially the younger generation. And please take an extra moment at the Memorial Service this year to remember those men that are still alive, but struggling with health issues and unable to be there to honor and memorialize their shipmates. Of the remaining living survivors, even the youngest is 82 years old.

Why didn't the officer at Leight care that the Indy didn't arrive? 2nd day, 3rd day, fourth day...no one cared!!!!! What the Hell???? Isn't this gross negligence? We lost over 800 men!!!!
