Tombstone's available for those Lost at Sea
Permalink Closed

My name is Karen Kenny-Dei and my uncle, Francis Patrick Kenny (aka Pat) was one of those that did not survive.

In doing research, I found out that the government does supply tombstone/markers for our loved ones.

Once all the paperwork was completed, I contacted the Great Lakes National Cemetery and arranged for Pat's marker to to placed in the memorial section.

We had a military service, conducted by the Navy, including a 21 gun salute.  Pat's two remaining sisters were so grateful that there is finally a place in Michigan that they can go to, to remember.

The office at Great Lakes was awesome and were there for any questions I had.

I can't believe that it will be 70 years since that great tragedy.

Such great information Karen. Thanks so much for sharing this! I will post it on the USS Indianapolis CA-35 Second Watch Facebook page in case there are other LAS families that would be interested in this. What a wonderful idea!

Second Watch has also started a program to get flags to the families of those lost at sea. If you are interested in receiving one of these flags, please send me an email at BullardMBullard@aol.com
